So it's circle journal time again....there will be a lot of these posts for the next few months as I am currently taking part in 3 separate CJs, more than usual, and I'm sure I'll regret it when the workload gets unmanageable... :|
This is for the Artistic Licence CJ - and this journal consisted of 7" x 5" thick boards with watercolour paper bonded to the front. The brief was to make something in the style of French artist Vincent Gachaga.
Now I've got to admit, I'd never heard of this chap before. But I do like what I've now seen online of what he does.
One thing I noticed that Gachaga uses a lot in his work is roadsigns, for example:
And I thought of a cool set of street art I had seen a write up of recently - from a NY crew called Trustocorp - and it all started to come together in my head.
So my background is acrylic and spraypaint, applied with a brush, an old credit card, and a honeycomb stencil.
And the "bear right" signs are a gel medium transfer.
The Trustocorp sign is just printed and cut out and stuck on top, with charcoal pencil adding some shadows.
Some aubergine chalk ink around the outside of the piece, a few teeny tiny metallic brads, and one last blast of red spray paint in the top right hand corner, and it's all done.
This didn't take long, but I like how it turned out, and I'm resisting the urge to add to it. I don't want to over embellish it.
Over and out.
Fabulous work Sarah! Love the last couple of CJ's entries that you have done. I really don't know how you find the time to do it all.
