A year of Artful Reading starts here

So it's January 1st - the start of a new year - and time for a new challenge!

The Artful Readers Club is the brainchild of the lovely Darcy from Art and Sole - at the start of the year we are to choose 12 books, and then each month we will:
  • read one of the books
  • write a brief review of it on our blog
  • make a piece of art of some kind inspired by the book
<=== This was my original choice of 12 books

But I was a little worried about that monster at the bottom of the pile, New York by Edward Rutherfurd.  It has over 1100 pages, and the chances of me managing to finish it in a month are frankly slim

Then came Christmas, and one of my presents was a book about fonts called Just My Type, that looks really interesting, so I swapped that for New York and here is my revised pile:

I have left New York on my virtual bookshelf over there in the left sidebar, though, and my plan is to try and read it bit by bit over the year as a bonus book

I'll see you back here on the last Friday of January when I'll be posting my review and related art-thingy for book # 1 on my list - Heartstone by CJ Sansom, a crime thriller set in Tudor times

Until then, happy artful reading to everyone else taking part in the challenge

Totally new and interesting list to me. I bet the Robert Harris book is good. I have read a few of his before but not the one you have chosen.

I know I've left a comment before but it seems to have gone into the ether. Hope this gets through.
I like the idea of the Type book and will look that up on Amazon, such an interesting area to read about and look at. An the Hearth Shaped Box title intrigues me. Look forward to the reviews.

See, now this sounds like a really awesome challenge. I like the idea of a reading club of sorts. The art part ... well, ya know. But really wild. Have fun with it! :)

FFS - you are me...

just less assertive,

i just read
Just My Type before I gave it Luke for Christmas - you WILL love it,

and monsters should sit at bottoms of piles of 'things to do' and be dealt with finally and swiftly....

i know what you mean about your new york selection - i have a few on my own list that i will be lucky to get through in a month! there are so many books out there. at least 12 will make a small (very small) dent in them. :-)

Thank you for stopping by my blog. Since I can't see the links, I appreciate that you found me. I'll try to reciprocate early at the end of the month.

I've never heard of any of those books you cited, so I am anxious for this challenge to begin. It will be fun to see your reviews and what you create as a result of each one.

Hi Sarah. Thanks for dropping by my blog. Woodford is a couple of hours drive from where I live here in Queensland, Australia. We moved back home to Australia from the UK about 15 months ago. We lived in London for about 20 months. My husband was originally from Huddersfield in Yorkshire. We went to support his mum when his dad was ill. His Dad passed away while we lived there.

What a great list! I love Terry Pratchett and CJ Sansom!

My other half is a Pratchett fan, I don't seem to be able to get into him though I love the fantasy genre. Must try again. Looking forward to your review of Thud and your other books too of course.
